Hey COG peeps, just checking in to say that I'm very pleased and honored to be the next caretaker of this Torch Red beauty. It was a pleasure acquiring it from and dealing with a straight up guy like Tom (Conesare2seconds), as he took good care of it and respected it's pedigree and lineage...am looking forward to spending time in the garage in attempt to keep 048 roadworthy, and making it even better (if that's possible). Don't be surprised if I ask a lot of questions (being a noob and all) and I look forward to giving back at least as much as I get out of this community. :beer

Edit: Not sure why most of these are 90 degrees CCW, they aren't formatted that way...

Thanks guys, looking forward to the journey!

Yes I have Surf, took it out for a bit of a shakedown tonight before washing her up...after getting the oil temp up past 190 I finally decided to cut her loose a bit and it pulled pretty hard until about 4K, then fell on her face with a backfire. Did this 3 times before I cruised back home...tried to keep an eye on the boost gauge and I don't think it was over boosting but I'm not sure. Tom hasn't driven it much for a awhile, so it might need some fresh petrol. I'm going to fill her up with 93 tomorrow or Friday and see how she does then. Also has a bit an oil leak that's definitely burning a bit, so I'm going to be verrrry careful with her until I can address that. I'll report back again after the next run

Were you low on fuel? The torque will push the fuel away from the pick up when you are at 1/4 of a tank and you'll get that falling over action.

Great suggestion! Unfortunately it's rainy here today so I can't get her out of the garage but a check of the fuel gauge confirms that it's a tick under a 1/4 of a tank so that would seem plausible and even likely...once the weather clears I'll fill it up with 93 and see what happens, thanks for the advice Josh. :beer

Well not for sure if it was low gas, bad gas, or both but filling it up with ethanol free 91 seems to have solved the issue :thumbs ...heat soaked starter left me sitting for a while before starting again, but that was a known issue and will be resolved very soon.

First impressions after wringing her out a bit is...wow, hard pull is hard pull! I was afraid I was going to break something, she gets up to redline in a hurry...the 4+3 takes a little getting used to but it was certainly a nice compromise before the 6 speed came along...thanks for the advice Josh and Tom, this car is a load of fun to drive!

I’ll bet the fuel was starving.

Another Tip, since your injectors have been updated...don’t waste your money on ethanol free gas. Ethanol is a good thing on forced induction engines...it’s very high octane.

That seems most plausible...good deal thanks again, I went through the records and probably missed it so i was being extra cautious. Have a P66 station nearby that has 93 w/ethanol so that will be my go to :thumbs
