(Tech Tips) Dymag Wheel Refinishing: What is the right color to use?

Was speaking with another owner this week and the questions came about, what color to use on the wheels to restore to factory gray?

Reaching in my credenza, I found the can of paint from 15 years ago. Here's the info:

DBU3661= GM Code WA7781

For touchup/repairs, Mazda Code 9156 (248B3)

I hope this info is helpful.

This is what was used by Ye Ole Wheel Shop, who's apparently under new ownership:

Re touch-up

will that close up chips to keep magnesium from deteriorating? I've used clear nail polish.

YES!!! Protect bare magnesium from the elements. You can also get the GM Color in touch-up, as well. :beer

A credenza? I have one, and use it for work space adjacent to my desk (and to store wheel paint for 15 years, apparently) :wtf

Wasn’t the Dymags powder coated originally?
I just got my second set back from TPCS Powder Coating. The owner, Steve Turner apparently worked at Dymag wheels for 27 years and ended up as General / Production Manager so I really hope they were refurbished correctly.
He used Interpon MW1881, which he thought was very similar to the original colour.

It's in Melksham, England. Somewhat convenient for me when shipping the wheels from Sweden, but probably not a viable option when in the US.
