1993 Astro Van AWD with Callaway LT1 for sale

Post by dgcallaway »

Hello,

My Father had a Callaway Lt1 installed in his Astro Van AWD back in the late 1990's. Van runs well, about 45,000 miles total on Van and 10,000 miles on engine. Photos attached. Any interest? If so, please make an offer or arrange to come see the vehicle. Located in Metro Detroit.

Hello, I am very sorry about not replying to your questions sooner. I have a job that requires me to travel overseas often, and a family.

I made a mistake in my listing. The van was brand new when the engine was swapped. The shop that did the swap is no longer around. Engine bought directly from Callaway. All of the miles on the odometer (except 100 or so from delivery) are on the engine. The engine was burning too much oil from new, because the rings never seated correctly. About 10,000 miles ago the engine was removed to fix the issue and the only thing necessary was to have the cylinders honed. Now all is well.

Known Issues:

Does not like hot days and bumper to bumper traffic, may over-heat. Never was an issue for my father as he did not drive in rush hour. This was his Golf Mobile! If this will be a daily driver, you will need to sort that out.

Also, the trans software is pretty good but not ideal, if you floor it from a stop it will hold 1st gear unless you let up slightly, then it will upshift. Normally this trans will start in 2nd gear unless floored from as stop.

AC system is all original, it needs a charge and perhaps more TLC. It has not been diagnosed.

There is no rust, I can take more photos of specific areas and email them to you if you want.

If anybody wants to drive the car, please send a private message to me with your phone number and I will call you to set up a time. We are located in Sterling Heights, MI. The car is stored in our factory, has not beed driven much for the past 5 years.

I will read your questions and try to answer to the best of my knowledge.

Asking price is $8500.

Thank you!

I will look at all your questions and answer them as soon as I can.

OK, I found out who installed the engine.

http://vrdtest.com

As I said before, about 10,00 miles ago the engine was pulled and the cylinders honed because the rings never did seat right and it was burning oil.

I do not have more details, but if you are interested in driving the car, then you can look over the engine yourself. I will take some photos today, but this is an Astro Van so from the top there is not much to see, it is all covered up.

Thank you.

Hello Chris,

I have the original bill of sale for the truck from the dealer, the title, and a deposit receipt for the engine and work at VED Inc from 1993. There is not a lot of detail in the VRD receipt, just the first payment (deposit) amount, nothing else.

Sorry, not a lot of detail here, my Father pays cash for things and does not keep a lot of paperwork.

You are welcome to see, drive and inspect the car.

Thank you.
