Front Leaf Spring

Post by Loudoun_Prime »

Does anyone know who makes front leaf springs for an 87 Corvette? I was trying to get one from VBP Vette Brakes & Parts vbandp.com - but it looks like they went out of business? I looked on the vansteel website and while they have something there, it is listed at $0 so not available anymore.

Is yours cracked? Springs rarely have an issue vs. the shocks, which wear out much quicker.

Looks like all parts houses are out on 84-87 fronts. Hmm...

I don’t see any cracks, but it is noticeably sagging low. I may have no choice but to go with coil overs but at least they would be adjustable and I could correct the ride height back to normal.

How are the shock absorbers? I imagine after nearly 35 years, probably need replacing/revalving, if originals.

I’m going to go ahead and replace the shock absorbers first to see what that does. Vansteel told me they may start making new front leaf springs later this year. Told me to call back in September for a status update.

Buy a used one from these guys.

I’m pretty sure 87s were known for sagging front springs.

here is a comparison of stock spring rates for C4's.

http://www.netmotive.net/articles/hib/c4/sustunch.pdf

I have a set of Z51's from an 86' ( same as 87') and a set of stock springs from an 86' ( same as 87') available if you cant find one. but I wont be able to ship until mid-late July.

Thanks - I think I found a new one. It’s supposed to arrive this week. I’m anxious to see what shows up - if it is the right one or not.
