1991 Aerobody Convertible

It's back on BAT. Someone really needs to give this car a forever home. This is an awesome car, and I wish I was in a position to buy it again. Last time it brought $49K - really strong money. Any bets on if it can repeat?

That's weird. I could have sworn I posted this in the for sale thread, then it was gone, so I posted it again in that thread. This looks like my original post - not sure how I made this a separate thread. Sorry for the duplication.

Im surprised that it stalled at 36k so quickly…I expect a huge surge at the end.

Agree with that. Escalated to $36k, now stalled. Perhaps the real money will come in the last few minutes of the auction. One to watch, as this is a nice car of the series.

Interesting the car shows it was shipped to the dealer, which it's safe to say, they shipped eventually to Callaway Cars in CT. Unique :wtf

46K with 3 days left. This one might go the distance!

The comments are fun to read. It sounds like there is a lot of appreciation for this car. I can tell you it always got lots of attention at every show I took it to.

One question thought - Reeves chimed in and (in answer to one of the questions) said the ET duct was painted to match on Aerobody cars. Anybody know if that is right?

I'm just curious because I painted that duct. When I got this car the duct was cracked from over-tightening the clamp, so I got a new one (from Callaway4Fun, IIRC). I painted it yellow because the duct on the Speedster was body color and I liked the matching splash of color under the hood. But the original one was black, I'm certain.

I have seen several 91s that don't have the ET duct painted.

Its up to 48k now. I am targeting this car at $60-65k given how hot the Aerobody market has been. Its a premier example with good pedigree.

Time will tell...

Any other guesses as to what this car's final bid is? I am at 65k.

Jonstr, what would you give for getting your car back? Or the Speedster?

I'd probably take the Speedster first. The yellow car is great, but the Speedster is...well, a Speedster. As for what I'd give - I'm out of the market on both, and probably will never be able to afford a Speedster again. :help

Well I was WAY off...sold for $52k. There was no last second surge that we've seen in the past.

The Callaway market is still someone of an enigma...there is little rhyme or reason to how these cars bid on BAT.

Great car at a great price IMO.

Agreed Surf. 1991 CTTC was the fastest convertible car on the planet that year. Don’t understand why these rare “antique” aerobody B2Ks aren’t six figure Corvettes yet.
Anybody know what Speedsters are going for these days?

The last few Series I Speedsters sold for $200k+

That makes this convertible a relative BARGAIN :wtf I mean, yes, the Speedster looks amazing. But is it worth $150k more? :wtf

The listed prices for those offered the past several years. The one fluke was the silver Speedster which McDorman sold at auction a decade ago. That one, his finger was supposedly on the wrong line of his ledger when asked, "do you want to pull the reserve?" He did, but it was for a different car, so that one sold for around 1/2 what he wanted :nono
