Starter removal

Post by Tiger38117 »

I have a sticky starter solenoid (have to tap on it to get the starter to crank). As I have researched pullong the starter I see that A) it appears the regular L98 starter is bolted to a blue adapter that rotates it out of the way of the turbo, and B) getting a wrench on the bolt next to the oil pan is troublesome. So my question is…can the starter be separated from the blue adapter without removing it? Saw the two pieces separated in a Youtube video but I havent had my car on a lift yet to investigate if this can happen while on the car. Has anyone tried this? Any advice from those who have pulled their starter?

Thanks
