Thanks Frank for the info/when I get back to San Antonio/currently in Washington at the summer home/I intend to get # 508 running and on the road/did the 91 cars have the big wonderbar? Good to go with the late trans/hope I can get it to run with my zr1,or even the Fidanza car :jsmile

Looking forward to it. Need to wind that 415CID up against the B2K and stretch the legs on 508.

Josh, was the only reason for the bump in HP from 382Hp on the '88-'90 cars to 403hp on the '91 cars?

O Rings and Seals- In the Ram Horn there are three areas of potential vacuum leaks. The two AUX Injectors have an O ring and the main O ring on the inside of the Ram Horn that seals around the throttle body. While I have not had any issues that I am aware of on the AUX Inj., there is a forum member that did identify this as an issue on his car. Callaway Cars still offers replacement seals. This would be an ideal, one time replacement item during your ownership and it's on my list to do as well.

I have replaced the main O ring that seals to the throttle body. This O ring will flatten over time on the side that meets the throttle body not allowing for a proper seal. This will become apparent when you remove the Ram Horn for various reasons to get deeper in the motor. EGR replacement, Injector replacement, Upper and Lower gasket replacements, Valve Seal replacement...

I remedied this by going to ACE hardware and getting a single O ring material that can be cut and sealed to size. This is how Callaway Cars did it as well. Meaning the O ring is not an actual "O" ring. It's O ring material that is cut to length and the two ends are sealed together with O ring sealer. Very simple fix.

For MAF cars, this could cause an issue with getting unmetered air upstream of the MAF.

Yes, to the best of my memory. Some places the 90 was called 390hp vs 382, but I'm not sure those were official ratings. The change from MAF to SD, could be cause for the change, but the wonderbar is really where the power is apart from boost and exhaust upgrades.

Tools - I always carry a paper clip to ground the information pin in the ALDL connector in addition to a printed code sheet... just in case you get a dreaded Check Engine light while on a road trip.

I have a 1988 callaway covette convt. this car was given an update specs to a 1991, what does that mean

That means you got a turbo upgrade to rotomasters. Not sure if the Wonderbar was part of that but a photo of your front frame rail would confirm quickly.

Thanks for all the info here guys! I have an opportunity to purchase a '90 twin turbo aerobody with 31,000 miles and I'm obviously concerned about Callaway specific issues to deal with. Amy other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Did you buy it? Be ready to turn a wrench...a B2k can be one of the most rewarding cars you'll ever drive, it just might take a minute to get it there.

Not yet. Owner passed away and family said i have first shot at it once they are ready to sell. It's giving me time to do my needed research. Did notice some clearcoat lamination at the top edges of the aerobody panels.

The question was recently asked, "Are the black parts of the intake a powder coat or painted finish?"
The answer is, they are painted. Here's the process.

Using VHT Wrinkle Plus Paint (P/N SP201) pre-heat the parts in an oven to 125* F.
Paint three (3) fairly heavy coats, with 5 minute between coats of paint.
Raise the oven temperature to 180* F to cure.

Overall, check each time every coat out every 15 minutes, leave in for a max for 30 min. Then let cool overnight.

Remove all rubber and plastic parts prior to this refurbishment process.
