2023 Amelia Island Concours

Next month at Amelia there will be a judged class “Corvettes at LeMans” featuring historically important Corvette race cars. Two on display will be “Frieda” and her Augusta brother that in 1995, were the highest finishing Corvettes at LeMans since 1960.

The Callaway Competition gang from the US and Germany will be there. Anybody else going?

1995 LeMans. Frieda and Augusta Callaway Corvettes finished 2nd and 3rd in class and 9th overall. Highest finishing Corvettes since Cunningham Corvettes in 1960. The Callaway’s success at LeMans helped prompt GM to start racing there too.

Not only will this be the first public outing for Frieda since the NCM a long time ago, but it will be the first time she roars back to life since 1995???

Yesterday, “Frieda” ran around the streets of Old Lyme CT for the first time in ~27 years. She was picked last night by fellow Callaway Corvette owner and superstar transporter Matt Long and is now headed to Amelia.

Eleven LM Corvettes including the three 1960 Cunningham Corvettes and two Callaway LM Corvettes. First time each group has been displayed together since their LeMans runs in 1960 and 1995.
In 1995, the two Callaway LMs were the highest finishing Corvettes at LeMans since the 1960 Cunninghams.
