Hello everyone, and thank you for the warm welcome. As stated in my intro post I recently purchased CTTC 89 #30.

Starting this thread to reach out to the community in case anyone can help fill in the gaps in the car’s history and document as I go along and sort her out to see what needs to be done with her.

The car didn’t come with any documents besides title and Callaway COA. So based on the CARFAX, a call to Young Chevrolet in Layton, UT and some internet sleuthing:

The car was sold new at Young Chevrolet and serviced there (Including a transmission replacement in 2007 at 33,000 miles) until its last recorded service in 2018 at 44,085 miles.
Sales/Ownership history:
2017 listed online by a private seller as one owner car Ogden, UT 46,000 miles
2018 David’s Classic Car ad online, one owner 46,000 miles
2019 Mar 15th listed for sale on ebay
2019 Oct 15th new owner reported Phoenix, AZ 46,256 miles
2020 Arizona Muscle for sale ad with links to two driving videos on youtube hard to see exact in the videos but ODO reads 46K +
2020 April 19th new owner reported Albuquerque, NM 46,689 miles
2020 June 17th passed emissions Albuquerque, NM 47,554 miles, new title issued
2021 Feb 22nd titled to a C.M.F. Albuquerque, NM 49,052 miles, passed emissions again same day
2021 Jun 27 On this forum 89x2 posts a pic of a white/red NM plates “TWNTRB0” on his thread about vanity plates (same car?)
2021 Sep On this forum there is mention of the “the white coupe that sold last month” in the for sale thread
2023 Jul 03 Purchased by dealer St Charles, MO
2023 OCT For sale Michael Thomas Motors St. Charles, MO 49,157 miles
2023 Dec 19 I bought it with 49,189 miles

Anyone a prior owner or familiar with this car and want to share some history?

So after dragging my race trailer from TN to MO the dealer pulls the car out of the garage and I move it a few yards into the trailer. Drive home after an overnight with a friend in Illinois and stop at the large parking lot near my house where it is easier to unload, back the car out and … what the heck she is dying! Check fuel gauge, empty! Are you kidding me?! So, 10 gallons from my VP cans before I can drive the two miles home. Of course my wife is laughing at me and had to snap a photo.

I spoke with the prior owner's secretary back in 2019 when it was for sale in Utah. Its had a new steering wheel and seats installed since then. She sent me a few pictures and that is about all I know about that car. Sorry I don't have more for you.

Thanks for chiming in, I appreciate any info. That explains the excellent condition of the seats with no wear marks in the usual spots on the driver’s seat. The steering wheel will have to be re-dyed, I am sure it was replaced with a used one that must have been better than the original but is still worn.

Tires will have to be replaced, matching tires and old date codes are a pet peeve of mine.

While I am at better check the status of the wheel studs and lugs, glad I did. Something missing from the rear passenger wheel.

Wow!

Just a heads up the wheels will likely be very hard to remove. Originally there was a felt "gasket" between the wheel and hub due to the dissimilar metals. It may be a little seized. I would put some dielectric grease on the hub before you remount the wheels.

Please tell mote about the felt "gasket"! I’m worried about galvanic corrosion and have been looking into thin spacers. (Though I should be worrying more about getting the car running ;) )

@*89x2* can correct me if I’m wrong but that is what I vaguely remember….It did just that, preventing that corrosion and subsequent bonding. I remember having to sit on the ground with a foot on the 3&9 positions, alternate kicking of each side until I broke the bond loose.

@SurfnSun, actually only one was stuck on and not that bad, a few wacks with my fish killer on the inside of the tire did it.
Once I got the tires off there was enough paint chipped off throughout each of the wheels I just couldn’t remount them with that much bare magnesium exposed.

The wheels studs were all badly rusted and the two wheels each missing a nut were missing them because those studs were stripped out. So new wheel studs were in order. While I was in there everything cleaned up real nice, no play in the hubs, ball joints in spec, pads and rotors are good, lubed everything with fresh grease and installed new ARP extended studs. I have been using these on my track cars for years with open lugs.

If you notice in the previous photo that the shock is black and not yellow that is because whoever replaced the FX3 Bilsteins put cheap over the counter parts-store base suspension replacements in. While the wheels were out I sourced used low mile FX3s.

All the actuators but the front passenger side look good with just visual inspection. They were zip-tied out of the way for the front shocks. The front passenger side was tied up in a manner that it melted. Time to source a replacement and then I will send all 4 out for a rebuild along with the shocks.

Wheels back from being refinished with new Nittos and steel open lugs on the ARP studs.

Good call.

Those studs look long, will the caps still fit on the wheel? The refinish does look great!

Yes, with careful measurement I ordered the ones that are the longest I could get and still fit under the caps.

Dakota, it took awhile to find someone and when I did it was word of mouth, second hand, from a casual conversation my wife had at the gym, long story lol. I had almost given up but found a local shop that has done a bunch of magnesium wheels, valve covers etc. and after visiting their shop I felt confident they would do it right.

It may be very helpful to others here to post the vendor. Many had shipped wheels to MD for refinishing but since Ye Ol Wheel went out of business there hasn't been a consensus refinisher.

Absolutely! I just had to call Stan and make sure he was cool with it, he said these wheels were alot of work!
