The restoration of CR-1 #7

Post by JimZRyd »

Happy Sunday Brothers! I wanted to start a thread to document and share along the way, my restoration of one of my all time dream cars! I was fortunate to acquire this CR-1 back in July off of the BAT site. All of you who might have seen this knows she's was left in storage in not so perfect of conditions. She was off the road since at least 2017 based off the PA state inspection stickers. I pretty certain she was just driven inside and shut off without so much as even a final wash. The fuel tank was almost dry and fuel pumps were on their last legs.

I got her home and gave her a thorough multi stage wash and to my surprise the paint is in great condition. Needs some correction but no major flaws. Interior was the same. Only a couple pieces in need of replacement. Replaced the fuel pumps with a new stainless steel single pump version. Filled her up with a tank of premium and she runs great! My goal is to bring her back to a "better than" state of formal glory!

Well, this weekend marked the first stop along this journey. I dropped her off yesterday at a shop that specializes in dry ice cleaning of high end exotics. The results I've seen from this place are unbelievable and the shops owner comes very well recommended! I'll be sure to give him a good plug once I get her back! He said he will provide me with lots of pics and video to share with all my Callaway Brothers! So stay tuned as I do my best to document this restoration. My plan is to have her ready for the next Callaway reunion. For now, here's a few pics as I dropped her off. Cheers :beer

Here's a few before shots and few in process at the shop. I can honestly say I'm very impressed with the results so far. Shop owner says they are cell phone pics so they don't do justice. Will get lots to share when I pick her back up! Here's a few from the sale ad first.....

Good evening my Brothers! Finally able to upload a few pics after I got her back from the dry ice blasters. Work, family, 2 hurricanes, and a bout with Covid slowed me down. What I thought was an engine leak was actually just the hoses from the oil coolers. Replaced those with a braided set from Jerry's Gaskets and no more leak🎉. Enjoy a few pics of a clean CR-1 finally!

Next I'll be building the coilovers and sending the wheels out for refinishing. Going to be a fun fall!
